2024 Volkswagen Touareg R-Line Review in Malaysia, The Thinking Man’s Luxury SUV? | WapCar
The 2024 Volkswagen Touareg R-Line signifies the return of the brand’s large, premium SUV into the Malaysia market after a somewhat lengthy sabbatical. Thing is, over the years, the competition has gotten better and better and more importantly, customers have had the time to dig into their respective camps and stay there.
So, is the 2024 Touareg capable of wooing new buyers and convincing the rest to make the jump over? We won’t lie, it’s gonna’ be tough when brand-conscious buyers have the Cayenne at the upper end of the market while the Volvo XC90 still proves to be a relative bargain today.
Does it have what it takes? Join Greg as he takes you on a drive in the Touareg to find out.

The 2024 McLaren Artura, on paper at least, boasts a fuel consumption figure that’s better than a regular economy car. It also has at least four times the horsepower and torque of a regular economy car. The 2024 Nissan Serena J Impul is getting a bit long in the tooth, isn’t it? Yes, it may have a body kit imported from Japan and swanky 18-inch wheels but the truth of the matter is that it’s a family MPV that’s been around for several years now. However, does that make it a bad car? A good car should stay good regardless of how old it gets right? And that’s what Greg will attempt to find out. ...

    Its a nice car, but honestly speaking, it will be hard to sell for a 470k pricing based on the Malaysian market. It stands a better chance at 350K. However that's just my personal opinion.

      Agreed. No one in their right mind will buy a VW at that price when you can get an XC90 for quite a bit cheaper (purely based on brand positioning). Expected it to be 100k more than the Tiguan Allspace, at most.

    We purchased a Toyota Vios as a second car 2 years ago. we have only driven it 8500 km. It is not a well built car. Its quality is sub par. A lot of minor issues such as reverse camera malfunction, display malfunction, poor mechanical quality, body integrity, etc. I don’t know if Toyota corporation quality has fallen or it is a function of Malaysian assembly. I don’t recommend this car to anyone who wants a reliable and dependable automobile.

    Tiggo, while it looks a lot nicer interior wise, the Mercedes feel, squeezing a third row into a C segment SUV is overplayed. The third row is practically useless. The X90 on the other hand is designed for that third row, being a D segment vehicle. Obviously the interior is not on par with the Tiggo and that's important depending on your needs, the X90 interior actually give a feel of a working man car. If I don't have a big family, I will buy Tiggo and fold the last row as boot space. At least I get a mercedes feel in the car. Tested the car and its very responsive to the point of jumpy yet they are some engine knocks. Could be the petrol. The X90 not that responsive but very solid smooth acceleration. It's not a slow car by any means buy definitely not a rally. 😊In this aspect I prefer the X90. Outstation on a X90 is outstanding and make you forget you are driving a Proton and with the captain seat on the second row and still ample space in the third and if you can live without the Mercedes feel interior wise...if you can and if you need more than 5 seats go for X90. I went for X90.

  • @seijeru87
    @seijeru87 5 дней назад

    I don't get it those who are choosing or preferring x90. First impression of X90 is just meh. It looks like an MPV India would make. The design looks decades old compared to Chery's futuristic stance and then the boring interior without android auto or apple car play in 2024. Just that it got slightly more space doesn't make it better.

      Because not everyone is buying to show off. Many just want a good comfortable reliable functional car. 1) They are looking for 3rd row spaciousness. 2) reliable ADAS. (No idea why no one really compares this among the car reviews. Having it is 1, usable or not is another. We don't want to pay so much for unusable specs) 3) premiumness is lacking for tiggo 8. Personally, tiggo 8 power boot closing is not soft close, like slamming the door. Not so premium. Then a lot of pop and rattling sounds when I test drive the car. I prefer x90 front face, more mature, though not that much for the back. 4) fuel consumption, 11-12km/L FC is impressive for such a big car. Tiggo should be around 8km/L only on average. They feel car play can be solved with a handphone holder. As they don't use maps so frequently. Family cars, you won't care about the 0-100km one la. You prefer smooth acceleration and deceleration. Cheers.

    I tested both, and i bought the x90 last month. As a family car, x90 is no doubt the better option, the tiggo 8 pro 3rd row is super duper narrow compared to x90, even my kid is just 8 years old and they did felt uncomfortable, and this is the most important for 7 seater car, no regret for me to opt the x90, the quality is so much better than i thought.

    • @esk4105
      @esk4105 8 дней назад

      Depends on your taste. But still Chery Tiggo 8 Pro is also better choice in terms of features, performance and design. Besides that actually disagree, because Chery quality now is also improving than before while Proton quality still not as good as Chery quality but even so better than buying any Japanese cars.

    • @bmagnus2729
      @bmagnus2729 5 дней назад

      @@esk4105I beg to differ. Last I test drive. I experienced these few things. 1) weird loud cracking sound suddenly came from dashboard. 2) powerboot closing super loud. Like slamming the door close. 3) ADAS system x90 better calibrated for Malaysia road. LKA, ACC, autonomous breaking all workable for x90. But not so for tiggo. Pricing aside, the 3rd point pushes me away from tiggo the most. Because the reason I changed cars was because of safety. Now I pay a premium price, and yet I did not get to use It makes no sense. To me, this safety adas system is miles more important than the car play. As those can easily be solved with a phone holder. Point 1&2 is point of me disagree with build quality. As those rattling or sudden pop sounds reflect a lot on the build quality. Also car boot closing sounds do play a lot on premiumness. Soft closing is way better than door slamming.

Personally I had bad experience with Korean cars having owned a Carnival, Sonata and Starexx before (was a strong Kia/Hyundai fan boy). Overall experience is, you will suffer when you car hit 5 years old. Parts are very expensive and maintenance is high. There are few third party workshops that specialises in these brands so you are forced to go back to the official workshops and they will shark you! The Geely Haoyue was first introduced in 2020 and was initially a China-specific model.
